Roger Federer is really a robot !!!

Posted by redracer on January 25, 2007

Just finished watching the Federer/Roddick semi-final match, and I was both amazed and disappointed. Amazed that one person could be on every part of the court at the same time, yet hit the ball every time to the place on the court where his opponent wasn’t – and disappointed that we didn’t we a really good contest, as the game had been built up to be. 😦 Roddick was completely demolished by Federer, and although he didn’t play his best game, he would still have beaten most of the other players on the current circuit. The fact that he beat Federer recently in an “exhibiton” match says just that – it was a show game and Federer was not trying at all …

Whoever wins the other semi-final on Friday night is going to have a real game on their hands – each time Federer plays he seems to get better and better, and who knows where it is going to end ❓ – he has already broken more records than I care to list here 🙄

Australian Open

Posted by redracer on January 22, 2007

After 6 days, unfortunately, all Australians have now been eliminated from the Mens and Womens singles draw at the 2007 Australian Open. Typical of Melbourne’s weather, it has gone from extreme heat one day to rain the next. If you don’t know about Melbourne’s famous weather, there are two things you can say about it …

  1. if you don’t like the weather,  just wait a little while.
  2. there are 4 seasons in one day.

I should know, I lived there for 8 years 🙄

Anyway, here are the sad results …

  • Samantha Stosur (24) – beaten by Jelena Kostanic Tosic (67) from Croatia 6-4 2-6 6-2. After a hard fought first set, she won 6 games in a row to win the second set after being 0-2 down, but the third was disappointing with too many unforced errors. However she is still in the womens doubles (with Lisa Raymond from USA – ranked 1) & mixed doubles (with Leander Paes from India – ranked 3).
  • Alicia Molik – beaten by Patty Schnyder (8) from Switzerland 3-6 6-2 6-0. She played well in the first game, coming out with all guns blazing, but then Patty just overpowered her and her lack of match play after recovering from injury showed up. With Tatiana Golovin, she was beaten in the first round of the womens doubles by the 6th ranked pair of Daniela Hantuchova from Slovakia & Ai Sugiyama from Japan.
  • Wayne Arthurs – very sadly had to retire after 3 games with Mardy Fish (USA) because of a freak reaction with an anaesthetic, after receiving an injection due aggravating an injury in his right hip in the second round. With Peter Luczak, he was beaten in the mens doubles first round by the pair of Amer Delic & Mardy Fish from USA.
  • Lleyton Hewitt (19) –  beaten by Fernando Gonzalez (10) from Chile 6-2 6-2 5-7 6-4. Mr ‘Fault’ didn’t have one of his best games, and considering he had already come back in another game from 2 sets down, we wondered why he had to make it so hard for himself all the time, and if he could do it again. Wilst he had a number of good serve games, with many aces, there were also far too many double faults, and his second serve is quite poor. There have been too many distractions in his life recently (injury, marriage, baby), and it seems that tennis is not the No.1 priority any more.

Looks like we’d better just stick to the cricket 😆
