New single release from MISIA

Posted by redracer on January 5, 2008

MISIA is due to release a new single (sort of) in March …

Japanese million-selling diva MISIA is due to release a new single on the 12th of March, but this time she will NOT be alone. The release will be a collaboration with Toshinobu Kubota, and is yet untitled. There will be a regular edition, and a limited edition including a DVD of the music video.

As far as I can tell, this is only the second time MISIA has released material together with another artist – the first time was in 2001 with her idol Miwa Yoshida from ‘Dreams Come True’ with the single “I Miss You”. It was written by Masato Nakamura from ‘Dreams Come True’ and sold over 430,000 copies – MISIA’s 2nd highest ever selling single. They can be seen to perform it together in the concert DVD “The Tour of MISIA 2001”. If you want to learn more about MISIA, have a look at this post.

Toshinobu Kubota is a male Japanese singer from Shizuoka who debuted in 1986, and since then has released more than 10 albums with sales of over 10 million. He was one of Japan’s pioneers of soul music, and has gained the respect of soul music’s most respected international artists whom he has worked with.

This is also the second collaboration for Kubota in his ‘Toshinobu Kutoba meets …’ series – the first was in August 2007 called ‘MAGIC’ with KREVA (whom I cannot find much about, but he seems to be a Hip-hop/MC artist who does a lot of remixes for others, he is 33yo and his real name is Takashi Hatakeyama).

Thanks for the information, and nice to see a whole blog devoted to MISIA (even though i can’t read it !!!).

MISIA has worked with a lot of people in the past, however MISIA is the lyricist for those two song off SINGER FOR SINGER – Toshinobu Kubota only wrote the music. But if you look at the whole album in that way, you could say it is all a collaboration !!!

But I wouldn’t consider doing backing vovcals to be a collaboration, what I really meant was more likely a ‘duet’, so my original statement still stands🙂

no, isn’t the second collaboration that MISIA has released!

she worked with Erykah Badu in “Akai Inochi” from the album MARS & ROSES and “Holy Hold Me” and “Let It Smile” with Toshinobu Kubota as the lyricist and back vocal from the album SINGER FOR SINGER.
