More new releases for Xmas 2007

Better start saving up !!! - other than those already listed, here is another ‘must have’ for your Xmas stocking

On the 5th December, J-Pop ‘veteran’ hitomi will release 3 new items (titles and cover image below subject to change) …

• a 3 CD set called ‘peace – Best Album’ containing all 37 singles she has released.
• a 2 DVD set called ‘peace – Best Clip DVD’ containing all 33 music videos she has released of her singles (some singles were double ‘A’ sided, that is why there is more singles than videos).
• a 3 CD+3 DVD set called ‘peace – Best Complete Box’ containing the same as above + an extra DVD of footage from last year’s concert tour in a limited edition deluxe box package.

Since the release of her ‘Love Concent’ album (her spelling !!) in September last year, hitomi has been very quiet, and other than a tour to support that album, obviously concentrating on family life.

Yes ladies and gentlemen, if you haven’t been into J-Pop for very long, hitomi has released 37 singles (and 11 albums) since her debut in 1995 and was a teenage fashion trend-setter long before the likes of Namie Amuro and Ayumi Hamasaki. Her ‘real’ name is Hitomi Furuya, she was born in 1976 and with her good looks originally did modelling before being picked up by influential producer Tetsuya Komuro in 1993. Since then she has sold nearly 9 million albums & singles, and she writes nearly all her own lyrics and some of the music and can play several instruments, including guitar. All of her albums before ‘Love Concent’ were in the top 3, and she has had 3 #1 singles, but as you can see from the list below, her prime period was the mid/late 1990’s.

Even though her voice can be little higher than I generally like, her music is interesting, and often does not stick to the ’standard’ J-pop style and sound – she is often more ‘rock’ than ‘pop’. As a sample, one of my favourites is the song (not even a single) ‘Real Love’ off her 2nd album ‘By Myself’. At 168cm (5′6″), she is taller than the average Japanese female singer, and has what I consider to be the 2nd best legs in J-Pop, and appeared naked on the cover of the Love Life album (well she is not completely nude, but has just a small loin-cloth on)
